  • Esports in American Schools: Academic Discipline or Entertainment?

I recently read that in the US, esports have started to be included in school programs, even as part of physical education. At first, it sounds strange, because playing video games does not require the same physical effort as traditional sports. But it turns out that it is not just entertainment: competition, teamwork, strategy - all this takes place. Do you think this is really useful for schoolchildren or is it just a trendy hobby that does not bring any benefit to their health?

This is an interesting topic, and it deserves attention. In American schools, esports are seen as a way to develop skills related to teamwork and strategic thinking. This article (https://www.virlan.co/esports/how-us...esports-in-pe/) explains that such programs allow students to learn tactics, manage emotions, and learn to make decisions in stressful situations. Esports do not replace traditional physical education classes, but rather complement them. Modern children can find this as a motivation to be active, albeit digitally rather than physically. This is especially useful for those who are not interested in traditional sports. Thus, eSports in schools is not just a game, but an opportunity to develop various skills that can be useful outside the virtual world.

I think this is a really good initiative. eSports can motivate children to participate in team activities, even if they are not sports. Competitions in a virtual environment also require effort and concentration. If schools really find a balance between physical activity and eSports, why not? In today's world, digital skills are increasingly in demand, so this can be useful for their future careers.
