Gil Making in FFXIV
FFXIV is a game that rewards gil in a few different ways. The player market board is one, but flipping and reselling can also be quite profitable.
Gathering is another option, especially at the beginning of a patch cycle as new nodes and materials are in high demand. However, this can be time consuming.
1. Disciples of the Land
FFXIV’s gathering classes harvest natural resources throughout Eorzea. Whether mining ores or catching fish, these classes provide one of the easiest and most consistent ways to make Gil.
But they’re just small cogs in a bigger machine. Gatherers often collect materials that other classes need for synthesis. For instance, a Miner might harvest wood for Carpenters or fibers for Weavers. Meanwhile, a Fisher might hunt the rivers and oceans of Eorzea for rare fish that fetch a hefty price from Culinarians.
2. Grand Company Seals
Grand Company Seals are a form of currency specific to each company. They can be exchanged for a variety of items, including gil-making equipment such as Glamor Prisms that autosell on the Market board. Players can earn these through Company leves, completing the Grand Company Hunting Log, Supply and Provisioning missions, and at higher ranks, Expert Delivery. These are great for leveling crafters and gatherers quickly.
Grand Company Seals can also be used to purchase items from the Materiel Container 4.0, but this is only a small return on investment.
3. Tomestones
Moogle Treasure Trove events usually occur in the run-up to a new patch and allow players to boost their endgame gear significantly. They offer a selection of older Allagan Tomestones (such as Poetics) with one new item added to the mix.
These events are great for making gil and acquiring the gear, furnishings, minions, and mounts needed to complete endgame content. Plus, they’re an efficient way to gain experience and level up classes.
4. Retainer Ventures
Ventures are a great way to make some quick gil. Retainers can be sent out on these expedition missions that will bring back gear, housing items and if you’re lucky, crafting materials that can be sold on the market board for a decent price.
Ventures cost a special currency called “Ventures.” Players can obtain these from Grand Company vendors or by completing guildleves. Players can also unlock Quick Exploration Ventures once their retainers reach level 10. These last an hour and cost 2 ventures. They reward an item based on your retainer’s combat or gathering stat.
5. Treasure Maps
Treasure maps lead to a special chest that can contain a variety of rewards, such as ffxiv gil, Allagan Tomestones, minions, crafting ingredients, housing items, and more. They can also spawn random enemies that drop a wide range of items including high level armor and weapon materia.
Players can obtain treasure maps by completing Angler fishing quests (1% chance) or by examining their Chocobo’s saddlebag (1% chance). Cleared treasure maps can be sold for 100coins.
6. Daily and Weekly Duties
The game is full of activities that can award players with Gil, including daily and weekly duties, dungeons, guildleves, FATEs, and more. These can be a great way for players to make money while leveling up or doing other content.
However, it is important to remember that time spent gathering can often be a waste of time. Selling items on the market and undercutting others can also be a good method for making money in FFXIV.
7. Khloe’s Wondrous Tails
Players who reach level 60 will unlock Khloe Aliapoh in Idyllshire (X:5.7, Y:6.1) and start getting a Wondrous Tails journal each week. This journal will give players a semi-randomized list of old duties to complete.
Completing one of these tasks will grant you a stamp in your journal; three of them will allow you to choose the first tier of rewards, which include endgame tomestones and high-level equipment. Getting all three lines is a feat that only a small number of players have ever accomplished.
8. Quick Ventures
In addition to rewarding gil, the Quick Ventures give players access to a number of unique items. These include furnishings, mounts, and unique dyes. They also sell well when a new patch is released.
It takes time to put these items on the Market Board and then fiddle with prices to avoid being undercut. However, if you can do it consistently enough to make the item worth it then this is a solid method.
9. Adventuring Forays
Players often spend their Gil on the latest end-game gear and housing items. They also use it to buy new weapons, mounts and glamour items.
This can be a profitable source of Gil if done correctly. However, it can be time-consuming putting items on the Market Board and potentially fiddling with prices to avoid getting undercut. Moreover, it is best to have multiple sources of Gil. This way, you won’t have to worry about losing your money when the markets are changing.
