Hi, fellow comrades
I started playing Combat Arms in 2009. It was great, I loved the clans, I loved the simplicity, the fact It was free and I could have fun. I spent a good 3 years playing the game everyday. I stopped playing combat arms in 2012 for a multitude of reasons chief amongst which was the rapid fall into pay-to-win.
I was buying nx but found myself unable to compete simply because people were outspending me. I quit in 2012, sporadically checking my account and new maps till 2014 and somewhere along quitting entirely. About a week ago I found Combat arms reloaded. I thought why not give it a shot. I went to great lengths to get this to work, I installed windows on my mac and 3 days ago I started playing reloaded.
I wont pretend that it is perfect, I play with 300 ping despite having superfast internet. I miss fireteam/qurantine - which are pretty much dead, I miss using specialist weapons, (I was a spec noob...) The HUD is annoying, also I hate not being able to change equipment inside a room, or shop...
But even in game modes as simple as one man army I enjoyed far more than I was doing in late 2012 when there were several op weapons hidden behind a nx paywall, even on a mac that is definitely not a gaming computer I am getting 300-400 fps, far better than I ever got in the classic. The reloaded rebalancing works, it could do with a little more tweaking but there is no more distinct advantage with epic/legendary weapons.
The return of the classic combat arms worries me, what time period 'classic' refers to, I have no idea. 2011/2010 and before I am fine with, 2012 and after would push me away from this game once again. Additionally, I dont want to lose my rank, my gp, my accumulated weapons/gear - what was the point of transferring everything if you are going to reset it anyway? Instead of resetting and returning to the classic, I wish this reloaded could just be improved.
A few, not exhaustive list of improvements;
1) Right now, the old gp weapons cost the same gp as the old nx weapons, why would anyone buy a normal tpg when you could buy the tpg-1 pro for the exact same price with no rank restrictions.
2) Let us change equipment in rooms and shop
3) Elite moderators, or let us vote-kick in one man army. Already seeing hackers exploit this.
4) 1-day items would be nice, I have accumulated a lot of gp so this has not affected me much but to a new user I think having one day items would be of great use
5) NX/GP balance is amazing but at least in terms of the crates I feel it is not entirely balanced, costs wayy too much gp for a loot crate.
6) More servers, or whatever im not too technical to ensure I dont have 300 ping...
7) Put the rare weapons on sale, or as rewards for ranking up, or put them on sale for restricted ranks
I am sure other people will have more suggestions, or will not agree with everything I have said, but I just wanted to put my thoughts out there.
At the end of the day, even if classic CA returns I am sure the new team will strive to make it more balanced, fun for everyone and not pay-to-win. Some of the things I suggested could just be with classic CA, but what I want most of all, from this point and for the future is transparency and some sort of democracy.
This might be difficult to implement, but I feel if we as people that play are allowed to vote on any changes to the game we can ensure that the vast majority of the players are happy moving forward which in my opinion would retain more players and grow the playerbase again.
